I knew it. I always wondered why my wife’s guacamole dip tasted so much better than what I found being served at most casual-attire parties that I used to frequent. (I’m surprised that I haven’t been invited to any recently). At first I attributed it to my wife’s superior insight on the subject- she’s Mexican. But, after reading “The Top 10 Things Food Companies Don’t Want You to Know”, I now know why. Many of those guacamole dips you buy at the supermarket don’t even contain avocados! So what is that green stuff? It’s hydrogenated oils, artificial colors and monosodium glutamate. Yum!

If you want my wife’s recipe, please email me at info@healthykitchenware.com. Also, be sure to refrigerate any left-over dip in a glass container.

“9 Hidden Toxins Lurking in Your Food” is a must-read article for anybody that is following the health care debate that is going on in this country. A good rule of thumb seems to be if it’s advertised, don’t eat it.

I wonder if anybody has done a study on toxins and health care costs?

Also, I seriously believe that there is a correlation between toxins and allergies. In my kids’ school there are a number of children that have serious food allergies. I can honestly say that I don’t remember this phenomena, when I was their age in the late 1960’s. It’s imperative that I keep an eye on what goes into my kids’ lunches. If I don’t, and one of their friends comes in contact with something that they’re not supposed to, it’s a trip to the hospital. No food fights in this school!

It’s interesting to note that rule #9 is never microwave plastic bowls, containers, or dishes. BPA could leach out of the plastic container and potentially contaminate your food.

I realize that it’s not like you don’t have other things on your mind. I’m just adding to them.

So I thought taking care of my glassware was pretty simple, but here are some tips that might be useful. Some surprised me, but they really work!

Glass food storage containers.

To take good care of your glass storage containers, bakeware, glasses, etc follow these suggestions:

1.	Avoid impact (yes, that was obvious!).
2. To avoid etching (the whitish film look) avoid soft water,	high water temperature and too much detergent in the dishwasher.
3.	Do not stack glasses.
4.	Clean with non scratch pads and cleaners.
5.	Check for rainbow hue on the glass container because that is the first sign of etching. If this happens go back to #2.
6.	Put less dishes in the dishwasher for more thorough rinsing.
7.	Keep water temperature no higher than 140 degrees.
8.	Avoid picking up glasses in bunches.
9.	Do not place cutlery in glasses.
10.	Avoid temperature changes.

Now enjoy your useful, healthy and pristine glass storage containers!
Here’s what she recommends you should do about all of the Tupperware, etc tucked away in your kitchen drawers:

As you can, replace plasticware with glass, porcelain or stainless steel. Until then, just be cautious in how you use plastic storage containers. Don’t put plastic in the microwave, ever. Heat can break down plastic so that it leaches chemicals into food.
