What do Wal-Mart, Whole Foods and Target have in Common?
That’s true. They’re all retail stores.
In addition to that, They announced on Wednesday that they are “phasing out baby products that contain BPA“.
Also, on that day, the California Assembly was going to vote to ban BPA. It fell short of the needed votes.
The legislature put off a final vote on whether to ban the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) from baby bottles and infant formula and baby food containers Wednesday after an emotional debate over children’s safety. I guess that there was a lot of “behind the scenes” lobbying going on involving the chemical, pharmaceutical and packaging giants. Opponents of the legislation included BPA manufacturers Dow and Sabic Innovative Plastics, as well as infant formula makers Abbott, Nestle and Mead Johnson. I wonder if they use the same lobbyist as Sempra Energy?
Interestingly enough, Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) said that failing to ban BPA statewide would leave their low-income constituents at a disadvantage, because they did not have access to BPA-free alternatives. Hasn’t he heard of the internet?
