Minnesota bans BPA; Chicago to follow?

On May 8, the state of Minnesota officially banned BPA (Bisphenol A) from baby bottles and sippy cups. It is the first state to ban the chemical for products for young children and other are expected to follow suit. the ban is effective January 1, 2011. Today a Chicago City Council panel gave preliminary approval for a similar measure.

BPA is a chemical made out of acetone, phenol and hydrochloric acid. It is an important ingredient in hard, see-through plastics and some resins.
